DO/DID COMO UN VERBO SUSTITUTO

En inglés, los verbos do y did pueden ser utilizados como sustitutos de otro verbo en una oración, especialmente cuando no queremos repetir el mismo verbo. Esta estructura es útil tanto en afirmaciones, preguntas, como en negaciones. Veremos cómo se usan estos verbos en diferentes contextos.

Do as substitute

Do se utiliza como sustituto para evitar la repetición de un verbo en oraciones afirmativas o preguntas. Se usa en presente.

Estructura:

Oración, cláusula do

Ejemplos:

1. We are looking for iron, but we do not find any here.
     Estamos buscando hierro, pero no encontramos ninguno aquí.

2. They are searching for copper, and they do it every day.
     Están buscando cobre, y lo hacen todos los días.

3. I am working in a mine for gold, and I do not see much yet.
     Estoy trabajando en una mina para oro, y no veo mucho aún.

Did as substitute

Did se usa en el pasado para evitar la repetición de un verbo en oraciones afirmativas o preguntas.

Estructura:

Oración, cláusula did

Ejemplos:

1. We looked for silver yesterday, but we did not find any.
     Buscamos plata ayer, pero no encontramos ninguna.

2. They did not mine aluminum last week.
     No extrajeron aluminio la semana pasada.

3. She did find platinum after hours of searching.
     Ella encontró platino después de horas de búsqueda.

Ejercicio:

Ayude al teacher a traducir al inglés las siguientes oraciones:

1. No encontramos níquel aquí.

2. ¿Extrajiste hierro el mes pasado?
